Now before anyone gets all worked up about anything political, this has nothing to do with his or my political views. This is about somethings that have crossed my mind since he won in the Iowa caucas.
As a black man, I have to admit that I do have my weaknesses and I fall prey to the "Yes! Let's get a black man in the white house, no matter what his political views are," mentality. I am not perfect and Yes, I would indeed like to see a black man in the white house... the right black man and not just anyone. Now, I have not decided whether or not Barack is the right man, but I have been thinking how some people across our nation might react IF he won.
As far as I am concerned, there will be 2 distinct groups of people that will come to light if this happens: 1) The black people who want him in because he is black and 2) The racists who do not want him in office because he is black.
I have concerns about both groups which I woke up with the urge to voice. I'm going to discuss them both after this statement:
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, I REPEAT - NOTHING, WRONG WITH HAVING RACIAL PRIDE. THIS GOES FOR WHETHER YOU ARE WHITE OR BLACK.
Now, having said that, we all know that there are those who carries this to the extreme. I have always believed that racism is a double edged sword. It cuts both ways and people who say that black people can't be racist are just wrong in my book. I've head black people say things like, "I don't like white people." WTF? How can this not be racist? Would people not say that a white person saying this is a racist?...
ANYWAY, I know that if Obama happens to win, there are going to be those in the black community celebrating, even if they didn't choose to vote. They will do this simply because he is black... as if a black man could do no wrong. Well, he's a man isn't he? Then he can and will make mistakes. Am I saying that he wouldn't be a good president, no, just that I am not simply going to judge him on his race alone, no matter how I may sometime fall into that mentality a little bit.
The previous group does not concern me a lot... the ones that do concern me are the hardcore racists, skinheads, KKK members and others whose names I don't know off the top of my head. I don't fault any white person for being as proud of their race as I am of mine. I am talking about groups who might very well do anything to keep a black man OUT of the white house. I only think of this because I am concerned for Obama's safety.
You ever get that other shoe about to drop feeling? That feeling that something is about to or should be happening and you are waiting for it? Well, I have that feeling... the groups I mentioned earlier have been silent on the news front about this lately and I am not sure what to think. I WANT to be positive and think that maybe that type of thinking is finally dying down some... BUT I am not naive enough to think that entirely. I have a feeling that either the news is refusing to give any coverage to them OR they are quietly waiting to see what happens and then plan to do something to remove him from office.
So, where do I stand politically, I am still undecided. But these are just some of the things that have been going on in my mind recently...
